Jacqueline Tse

Jacqueline Tse Artist Biography

Jacqueline is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Tucson, Arizona, working primarily in clay, metal, and wax.

Born 1984 in San Jose, California, and raised between Hong Kong and the US, she received her BFA from New York University in Studio Arts in 2006.

For over 15 years, she hustled in NYC's fast-paced fashion world, designing jewelry for Fortune 500 brands. Climbing the corporate ladder brought success, but at a cost. The stress manifested as an eating disorder, a wake-up call that forced her to re-evaluate her life.

In 2017, she returned to her lifelong passion: sculpting. It became her therapy, a way to heal and reconnect with myself. This journey led to "Death by Sugar," a series in porcelain that explores the dark side of consumerism and fleeting happiness.

Tse's work is highly influenced by her anxieties of being human, particularly the dilemmas of everyday urban life. It is an ongoing exploration of a fascination with American society of excess and shameless consumerism, social media overstimulation, greed and gluttony as a remedy for emotional disconnection - meanwhile still celebrating the beauty and flaws of these fragile human conditions.

Her work was selected for the 61st Faenza Biennale at the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, Italy, and has been featured in various publications about contemporary ceramic art. She was awarded the Multicultural Fellowship in 2020 from the National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts.
